Penalties for Resisting Arrest
According to 720 ILCS 5/31-1, a person commits the crime of resisting arrest
if they knowingly resist or obstruct the dutiful performance by a peace
officer, firefighter, or correctional institution employee of any authorized
act within their official capacity. Encompassing any kind of behavior
which interferes with official duty, it often involves an individual who
refuses peaceful consent of arrest, including running away from the crime
scene, striking an office or eluding police while on a car chase. However,
